I am so excited to be releasing our Junior Book Explorers to the world beginning on August 31st! Each Saturday, everyone subscribed to our email list will receive a brand new Junior Book Explorer Guide for that upcoming week. This gives families time to print everything out on Saturday morning and gather any supplies they may need before the week ahead.
This curriculum is absolutely FREE! There are also no printables included so families don't need a printer to be able to use it. I want this to be acceessible to all! The books can easily be checked out from a local library and all supplies can be found at The Dollar Tree, Amazon, Walmart or Target. I am trying to keep each week using many of the same supplies so it never costs more than $10-$20/week for the hands-on learning.

What is included in each guide?
Daily Reading
In our Daily Reading time, we dive into wonderful stories together! Each week, we’ll explore a fantastic chapter book or picture book that sparks our imaginations and takes us on exciting adventures. It’s a time for your little ones to snuggle up with a good book, whether they’re listening to you read or practicing their own reading skills. We’ll also share our thoughts about the story, helping to build understanding and a love for literature!
Phonics Focus
Our Phonics Focus is where the magic of reading begins! We’ll start with letter sounds and work our way up to fun phonics activities that help our kiddos learn how to blend and segment words. Each week, we’ll play games, sing songs, and do hands-on activities that make learning sounds enjoyable and engaging. It’s all about building that strong foundation in phonics that helps our young readers soar!
Sight Words
Learning sight words is super important, and we make it a blast! Each week, your child will have a list of 220 Dolch Sight Words to practice. We’ll play hands-on games and interactive activities that will help them recognize these words with ease. From treasure hunts to matching games, they’ll be learning while having fun—setting them up for success in reading!
Spelling
In our Spelling section, we’ll have a great time with hands-on learning games! Each week, children will work through a spelling list at their own pace, using creative materials like blocks, sand, and other fun items. This personalized approach ensures that every child enjoys their spelling journey and builds confidence in their writing skills.
Handwriting
Handwriting practice is an exciting part of our day! We’ll engage in fun activities that help our little learners develop their writing skills. Through tracing, drawing, and writing, we’ll focus on proper letter formation and spacing. We make handwriting enjoyable, so it feels like play while strengthening their fine motor skills!
Storytime Adventures
Our Storytime Adventures are all about bringing the stories we read to life! Each week, we’ll explore themes from our daily readings through crafts, field trips, recipes, or STEM activities. It’s a wonderful way for children to connect what they read with real-life experiences, sparking creativity and curiosity in their hearts!
Junior Writers
In the Junior Writers segment, your child will have the chance to express themselves through drawing and writing. After you read a story together, they’ll create their own illustrations and narrate a few sentences about what they drew. You’ll write down their words, and then they’ll copy it into their notebooks. This process encourages self-expression, reinforces comprehension, and helps them develop their writing skills in a fun way!
We are beyond excited about our first 10 books! My goal when choosing these books is that by choosing first books from series' that a child will love it so much, they'll want to continue reading the rest of the books in that series. I am also choosing picture books in between because I know as parents, reading a new chapter book each week can sometimes be a lot with our busy schedules. So I am breaking it up a bit.
