Our Favorite Children's Music

I taught dance for almost 20 years and prior to that I was a nanny in Seattle. I have spent the majority of my life listening to children's music and I have three absolute favorite children's artists. Ones that I have zero problem listening to all day long. Artists who have stood the test of time in our home.

Our absolute favorite children's musician is Justin Roberts! Justin Roberts writes music from the child's perspective and it brings pure joy with a folk PNW vibe. Justin Roberts holds a special place in our heart because the family I nannied for was obsessed. I'd come in for work at 7:30am to get the kids ready for the day and start breakfast and the parents would already have Justin Roberts blasting all throughout the kitchen; starting the day with pure joy. Matt and I used to babysit for the kiddos together often while we were engaged and in our early years of marriage. Once we had kids, we continued the Justin Roberts tradition. Now our kids love him and his music has become part of the soundtrack to their childhoods as well as our parenthood memories. I still walk in the door from errands to find Matt has turned on Justin Roberts as the kids play and he's cleaning.

-Pop Fly

-Henrietta's Hair

-From Scratch

-Stay-at-Home Dad

My favorite Justin Roberts album is Pop Fly simply for the memories. They're all incredible!

Next up with a close tie is Emily Arrow! Emily writes music based on children's literature - um, hello - my jam. Lilly Belle (12) still dreams of one day being in one of Emily's YouTube videos singing along to her adorable songs with her ukulele named Bow. Bow...and Arrow...get it?! Cutie! Emily has a magical voice and in our early days sharing on Instagram, she and I would chat often. The girls were obsessed with Emily's songs - they still are! When we're in the car Lilly Belle will still turn on Emily's music and we're immediately swept back in time to the early days homeschooling with three kiddos 5 and under. So much joy! We highly recommend.

-Are We There Yeti?

-No, No Gnome

-Don't Hide Your Magic

-Books! Books!

-The Curious Garden

We absolutely love Emily's YouTube channel. The kids were obsessed when they were little and I still find them watching it from time to time now.

I have included Emily's songs in many of our curriculums!

Lastly, and honestly I just shouldn't be putting them in any kind of order; they're all so special to us, is The Laurie Berkner Band. Laurie's music is the soundtrack to my life as a preschool dance teacher. The majority of her music gets the kids moving in such fun and creative ways. She writes music again with a folk-vibe that can fill any children's space with joy. And again, another artist that Matt and I don't mind listening to as the soundtrack to our lives.

-The Goldfish

-We are the Dinosaurs

-Rocketship Run

-Fast and Slow
